Job Opportunity: Communications Officer

The NIB Trust Fund’s mission is to preserve and revitalize First Nations language, culture and way of life and is devoted to creating meaningful opportunities and impact to the lives of First Nations people.

The Communications Officer provides support for marketing, communications and communications plans promoting the NIB Trust Fund. They will coordinate the communications, public education and public relations activities for the NIB Trust Fund to the general public, stakeholders, donors, staff, and media; strategically develop printed brochures, web, newsletters, media and support social media communications.Develop story ideas, scripting, editing, website content, write articles for website, newsletters and publications.

  • Strategically seek out and manage social media sites. Conceptualize and participate in design decisions and write advertising/promotional or other print or electronic communications material to meet established goals and objectives and for dissemination to key external audiences for special projects.
  • Develop communication plans and programs for the planning and delivery of press conferences, inaugurations, gift announcements, conferences, symposia, workshops,
  • Make decisions, coordinate public and educational outreach and awareness projects.
  • Undertake special projects.
  • Maintain good rapport with colleagues at the NIB Trust Fund.

  • Candidates should have at a minimum a post-secondary degree in a related field of study and experience working in communications.
  • Applicants must have excellent Microsoft suite and Adobe skills
  • In addition, experience working with First Nations and Métis communities is essential.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly experienced candidates who do not possess a degree may be considered for opportunities. French is an asset.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work independently, work well under pressure and in a fast-paced work environment.

Salary Range: Commensurate with job requirements, experience, and education (within limits of the salary grid)
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Duration: Full-time position
